Blairs Windows and Doors Joins Forces-Friendly Employers at Lowland RFCA Business Breakfast

Blairs Windows and Doors proudly participated in the recent Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) Business Breakfast, hosted by Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA) in partnership with Trump Turnberry. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the breakfast brought together over 200 guests, including Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs), and representatives from more than 100 businesses and organisations committed to supporting the Defence community.

The prestigious Turnberry hotel and golf resort, a signatory of the AFC and recipient of the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award in 2024, provided an impressive backdrop for the event on Wednesday, April 2nd. With a rich history of military service, having served as an airfield and military hospital during both World Wars, Turnberry proved an ideal location for networking and celebrating the commitment of Forces-friendly employers.

The morning saw 43 Lowlands-based employers receive the ERS Bronze Award, which recognises organisations pledging their support to current and former members of the Defence community through the Armed Forces Covenant. Two organisations were also honoured with the ERS Silver Award, acknowledging their active support for military employees through established HR policies and the provision of additional leave for Reservist training.

Following a welcome by Turnberry Hotel Manager Scott Anderson and a networking breakfast, Lieutenant Colonel Lee Curson, Commanding Officer of 6 SCOTS, presented the ERS awards on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Alex Gray, Managing Director of Blairs Windows and Doors, pictured alongside Joe Boyd, Operations Manager, commented, "We are pleased that Blairs Windows and Doors is among the esteemed recipients of the ERS Bronze Award, demonstrating our commitment to supporting veterans and reservists within the workforce."

The event also featured insightful addresses from Paul Sheerin, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering, who highlighted the valuable transferable skills that Reservists bring to civilian employment, and Squadron Leader Tom McMorrow of the RAF Air Cadets, who spoke about the significant contributions of CFAVs and the potential of Cadets as future employees.

The Lowland RFCA expressed their gratitude to Turnberry for their exceptional hospitality and to all attendees for making the Business Breakfast a valuable and enjoyable experience. The event underscored the growing network of organisations in the Lowlands dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces community.
